Yesterday, a senior yoga student told me that she was feeling completely out of sorts, and just couldn’t seem to get a moment’s rest. Over the past few weeks, I have seen and felt a lot of overwhelm and exhaustion in my yoga students.
How are you feeling? Are you exhausted? Overwhelmed? Why not give yourself a moment to rest?
Sit yourself down on a chair. Raise, lower and roll your shoulders. Unclench your jaw. Inhale deeply and sigh bigly. Allow yourself to soften into the chair. Inhale and sigh again.
Set a timer on your phone for one minute (or 2 or 3…). Then, just sit and breathe.
Start your timer.
Close your eyes.
Sit and breathe.
Repeating to yourself, I am sitting and I am breathing.
Feel your in-breath and out-breath, and repeat to yourself I am sitting and I am breathing.
Nothing else to do but sit and breathe.
I am sitting. I am breathing.
Sitting and breathing.
Sit, breathe, and repeat some form of those words, over and over.
When your mind starts to wander away from the breath, and away from the chair, bring it back to the chair, and to the breath.
I am sitting. I am breathing.
I am allowing myself to sit and breathe.
Just sit. Just breathe. Just for a moment.
Give yourself a moment’s rest. A moment’s peace.
