Our family made up a new game last night that we’re calling SongStir. We had so much fun with it. I really haven’t laughed as hard in a long time, so I thought I would share it, because you might enjoy it as much as we did.
Grab your phones, or tablets or laptops.
Search the internet for the lyrics to a song. Try for a song the whole group might know.
Don’t tell anyone what your song is.
Copy and paste the lyrics into your Notes app. It doesn’t have to be the entire song, but preferably at least a verse and the chorus.
Read through the song and eliminate random words of your choosing, replacing them with their part of speech or a description in caps, e.g. NOUN, VERB, ADJ, PLACE, OCCUPATION…
Be extra careful not to start whistling or humming your song. It’s really hard not to!
When everyone has finished, decide who will go first. Player 1 reads out the parts of speech, as the rest of the players take turns giving them words. Player 1 replaces the words with their suggestions.
If a key word repeats itself over and over in the song, players can use their discretion as to whether to repeat one word or not.
When all of the words have been replaced, Player 1 sings their song with the new lyrics. Hilarity ensues!
We really had so much fun with this. The songs got sillier and sillier as we went along. And we’re still singing some of them today. If you save them in your notes you can sing them forever!
I can’t wait til I can be in a roomful, or yard full of friends playing this game.
If you do decide to play, I’d love to hear about it!

Sounds really fun. We will let you know if we try it
