Just For Today

Just for today, I will get out of my own way. I will deliberately move past ego, pride, grief and grudges. I will outmaneuver anxiety, awkwardness, sensitivity, and self-doubt. I will dodge discomfort, fear, inconvenience and angst. I will sidestep sadness, anger, neurosis and shame.

Just for today I will get out of my own way. I will consciously release the interpretation that I hold of the past, and the uncertainty that I have about the future, which keep me from living in the now, and doing something right this moment.

Just for today I will get out of my own way. I will confidently ignore the voices in my head, the words of others that I have somehow misremembered as truths about myself.

Just for today I will get out of my own way. I will purposefully loosen the grip on my own collection of tightly held thoughts and constructs, which keep me from doing things that could be interesting, enriching, helpful, or joyful.

Just for today I will get out of my own way. I will blatantly disregard the stubbornness, laziness, and apathy which might otherwise keep me from doing something that I know in my heart to be positive, nourishing and healthful. Something that is just, and righteous, and good.

Just for today I will get out of my own way. I will actively look for reasons to say yes instead of no. I will permit myself to get up, move forward, reach out. I will allow myself to do, to go, to create. I will empower myself to attempt, explore, expand.

Just for today I will get out of my own way. I will gently invoke gratitude, compassion, acceptance, and joy. I will openly embrace sobriety, sensibility, self-love and surety. I will fiercely embody bravery, boldness, fearlessness, daring.

Just for today I will get out of my own way.
Or just for this morning. Or maybe just for an hour…
